Wider Reading I
What was the article about?
Within the article titled Two of Us, it involves two neighbours
sharing affection between each other. However, Madeleine is
afraid of her two adult children finding out the private
existence of their mothers scandalous relationship.
What did you find interesting about it?
I found that there is conflict between the characters, and they
all have a close relationship. This makes me interested in their
dynamic relationship within the care home. Their secret
relationship spirals from a romance genre to a thriller, as one
of the characters is revealed to be unhinged and stalkerish.
This really affects the plot as it actively demonstrates how
diverse media can be in producing genres that can advance
into a more opposing heading, rather than sticking with one simple genre.
How could you find the information useful to your studies?
From the articles, I discovered that you don’t need a big cast to be able to perform such a diverse storyline, it can take up to only a few people. As well as the entire production process, it doesn’t require numerous forms or roles, to be able to construct a cinematic outcome.

Films Gone Wrong
During pre-production or regular production, it is a common occurrence for errors to happen anywhere to anyone. Film sets can be a vulnerable, and sometimes limited space, which can have a significant impact on the crew if something were to go wrong.
Some movies that have going wrong
can involve innocent minor errors,
such as items or people unintentionally
being in frame of the camera. For
instance, in the award winning drama
series, Game of Thrones, there was a
coffee cup placed directly in front of
the camera. Having Starbucks in
297 AD is quite an achievement.
And the episode was still aired.
... another example is when filming equipment was visible
in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the actors
portable microphones under their jumpers were quite
noticeable but also continued to be kept in the movie.
However, there are unfortunately some movies that do
encounter more worse mistakes, and even death.
An example of an actor almost dying would be Isla Fisher
in the American heist thriller, Now You See Me. During
filming, the actor was placed in a tank full of water, and
despite having multiple practices before
filming, it went wrong. The narrative is about
magicians performing tricks in front of
thousands of people and a performance to
remember. However, the chains in the tank
got jammed in the grate, and the actor was
unable to reach for the safety button to drain
the tank. You can actually see her mouthing
the words “the button” underwater as she
repeatedly taps the glass, but luckily
managed to escape the chains and go up towards the surface. With all this panic, it was actually kept in the movie as she executes the emotional anxiety performance well even though she was being realistic in that situation with no acting.
What is a script -
A script is essentially the instructions for crew, actors,
special effects, and more. The use of a script in a
movie would cause an organised consistency of
dialogue, stage directions, and commands to follow
through during the filming/recording process.
What is a storyboard -
A storyboard is the narrative of what happens
during the movie. Storyboards are usually
created along side with sketches, this is done
to help create a visual representation of what
is to be presented to plan out how a scene
will be filmed.
What is a risk assessment -
A risk assessment is in place to ensure that none of
the actors or crew end up risking themselves to the
exposure of hazards. Assessments can include the
education of fire extinguishers, pre-assessed filming
set examinations, equipment checks, testing safety
mats, and so on.
This is all done to confirm that no one ends up
causing damage to themselves or others, as it
could have a great affect on filming if an actor, for example, were to break their leg from tripping over a slip hazard just a few minutes before filming.
